Dr. Haris Dzubur

Chief of Optometry

Dr. Haris Dzubur, a Chicago native, is the Director of Optometry at Family Eye Physicians and a renowned expert in dry eye treatment. With over 10 years of experience rejuvenating the delicate glands that produce healthy tears, Dr. Dzubur is dedicated to soothing the ocular surface and improving patients' quality of life.

Dr. Dzubur earned his B.A.Sc in Biological and Physical Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago before attending optometry school in Texas. He completed an internship at the Orlando Veterans Administration Hospital, Viera Outpatient Clinic, focusing on vision-debilitating eye diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. He further honed his skills in Miami, training in the management of ocular surface diseases with Dan and Hoffman Eye Associates, and completed his final training in fitting specialty contact lenses in Ft. Lauderdale with Dr. Kenneth E. Mailer. Dr. Dzubur graduated with his Doctorate in Optometry from the Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio in 2014 before returning to his hometown.

His extensive training led him to found the "Illinois Dry Eye Center of Excellence" at his previous clinic. Dr. Dzubur's medical approach to diagnosing and treating dry eye disease makes him one of the most sought-after Dry Eye Specialists in the Midwest.

In addition to dry eye treatment, Dr. Dzubur specializes in fitting specialty contact lenses, including scleral lenses for keratoconus, Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, Degenerative Myopia, Aphakia, Aniridia, post-corneal transplants, and multifocal and prosthetic contact lenses. He is also at the forefront of myopia management, using cutting-edge technologies to protect the vision of growing eyes.

Dr. Dzubur is passionate about education and serves as an Adjunct Faculty Professor of Optometry at Midwestern University, where he is actively involved in the clinical training of future optometrists. He is also the President of the North Suburban Optometric Association and a National Speaker for multiple industry partners, sharing his expertise on Dry Eye Disease, MGD/Blepharitis, and Allergic Conjunctivitis.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Dzubur is a dedicated humanitarian, serving on the board of a non-profit organization. He is fluent in Bosnian and Spanish and enjoys spending time with his family, frequenting parks and soccer fields with his sons and his beloved French Bulldog, Duke. He is also an avid golfer and soccer fan.

Dr. Dzubur's career has been primarily focused on ocular disease and full-scope medical optometry in the Chicagoland area. He is highly skilled in diagnosing, treating, and managing conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and, most notably, dry eye disease. Dr. Dzubur also excels in fitting advanced contact lenses for myopia management, presbyopia, and other vision challenges.


Dr. Azaleea Rad

Optometrist and Dry Eye Specialist

Dr. Carmen Rad, a highly skilled optometrist and dry eye specialist, was born in Romania and immigrated to the United States at the age of seven. She graduated from the University of California Davis with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Italian.

Dr. Rad earned her doctorate in optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2018. During her time at ICO, Dr. Rad trained in various practice settings, with a strong focus on medical optometry. She received high-level medical optometry training at the Hershel Williams VA, where she gained extensive experience in managing complex eye conditions. She also completed clinical rotations at the Illinois Eye Institute, Rosenbloom Center on Vision and Aging, and Cascade Vision Center.

Her training at the Rosenbloom Center on Vision and Aging and Cascade Vision Center puts her in a unique position to care for the aging population and manage age-related eye conditions, such as cataract surgery, dry eyes, glaucoma, diabetes, and age-related macular degeneration.

Through her studies, Dr. Rad developed a passion for specialty contact lenses, dry eye treatment, and ocular disease management. She is committed to providing comprehensive and individualized eye care to all her patients.

Dr. Rad is also actively involved in myopia management, working at a state-of-the-art myopia control clinic that utilizes the latest technologies to protect and enhance the vision of young patients.

Residing in Chicago with her husband Chris and their two cats, Luna and Ollivander, Dr. Rad enjoys spending her free time outdoors, exploring different parks around the city, discovering new coffee shops, and trying new restaurants.


Dr. John Sterczek

Family Optometry

Dr. John, a dedicated and compassionate optometrist, has devoted 38 years to providing exceptional eye care at Star Vision. As the owner and leading practitioner, he has built a reputation for going above and beyond to ensure the health and well-being of his patients. After nearly four decades of service, Dr. John has announced his decision to retire at the end of September 2023, marking the end of an era for Star Vision as the office prepares for permanent closure.

In anticipation of his retirement, Dr. John is diligently working to transfer patient records to a trusted local eye doctor at OkO Medical Eyecare (www.okoeyes.com). He is thrilled to join Dr. Haris Dzubur's esteemed team at OkO Medical Eyecare, where their shared philosophy of taking the extra step for patients perfectly aligns.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. John is happily married and the proud father of two daughters. His family has been a source of support and inspiration throughout his career, and he looks forward to spending more time with them in his retirement.
